Finally.....

Finally, the report is submitted. We have taken extra miles in preparing the report in order to make sure it is up to the expectation. Hope everything is good....

Now, we have discuss about the presentation slides to be presented next week. It seems easy now to prepare the slides, since everything are in the report. Just need to pick those important point in the report and put it in the slides.

Next week will be the final presentation,..hope it will be going well for us...

Editing, Finalizing and Proofreading

Now that we almost complete the report. We are at the stage of finalizing and editing the report. Seems like everything are in place now. Little bit of tweaking will make it good. A proofreading is necessary after this......sure heaps of error need a fix.

Next week is the due date for the report to be submitted. Finally we getting to the end of the progress. Not much left....After the report submission, then the final presentation on the following week. Yeah, we need to keep it going.....

Emm...can't wait to end all this,...

Still Writing......

I kind had to take the weekend off on last weekend after being busy with the assignment for "Engines" course. After all, i managed to complete the assignment a week before its due date. Um...what a day...

Anyway, taking a break in the weekend is not a bad idea. I have spend the weekend with my wife and kids in the park, playing and clearing my mind. The whether was very good. This week i feel fresh and get back to writing the report.

We are getting there, not too far now......

Project Report

After all the tests completed, now we have to start with the project report. The report is the most important part as it carry 60% of the total marks. Up until today we have started with the chapter of the literature reviews. Its about 30% of total report. Now we just need to put in the test result and conclusions, findings and reviews.

We have gather all the data and had a discussion on the result and its conclusions. We just need to translate it into a report. We have made a great team effort in doing this.

Post Test Review

Looking at the test results, we believed that the generator would work more efficient if it is used on 4WD vehicle that drive on rough terrain. It is because the driving on rough terrain would create more and continuous suspension movements. Hence, more voltage output would be generated.

Due to limitation in acquiring the test vehicle and modification, the test on 4WD vehicle was not materialize. It is recommended to include test on 4WD vehicle in future study.

Results and Findings

We are now analyzing those data collected during the test. It seems like the voltage and current generated from the device is too small and insufficient to use as a charging source. Considering the experiment was carried out on a small scale generator, the result is positive and have proof that the idea is working and might produce the higher output with the bigger scale of generator.

They are also findings that we have concluded from the test results;

  • The generator does not generate a constant and continuous voltage on motorway driving condition due to good road profile on motorway.
  • The higher voltage output is required from the generator in order to produce higher charging voltage up to required battery voltage.
  • The higher current output is found as a significant criteria for generator, since the higher current would provide a faster charging time for the higher capacity of energy storage.

On Vehicle Test

The tests were carried out on three type of road:  Unitec campus driveway, main road and housing streets and motorway. Following figure shows the captured result via picoscope computer.

Test on unitec campus driveway @ 30km/h

Test on main road and housing street @50km/h

Test on motorway @100km/h

Test result were not very satisfying, but it is enough for us to make a comparison of results on difference road profile conditions.
